Add the benchmark plan’s price to see your tax credit: it’s that price less $289.

What this means

Your credit is the same whichever plan you choose, so a cheaper plan costs you less each month: some Bronze plans may cost little or nothing after the credit, but have much higher deductibles.

The credit is based on your estimate. If your income ends up higher, you pay back the extra when you file your 2027 taxes, with no limit on the amount, so tell the Marketplace if your income changes.

Assumptions in this estimate
  • For 2027 coverage, with the 2026 poverty guidelines and the IRS’s 2027 table: from 2.15% of income near the poverty line to 10.22% from 300% to 400% of it.
  • Income is modified adjusted gross income: your AGI plus any untaxed Social Security, tax-exempt interest and foreign income, for everyone in the tax household who has to file.
  • You can’t get the credit if you can get affordable coverage through a job (self-only cover costing up to 10.22% of household income in 2027), Medicare, or Medicaid. Married couples must file jointly.
  • Medicaid limits are for adults under 65 and use the same household size; states count income and households in their own ways, and some cover adults above the limit shown.
  • Some states add their own help on top of the federal credit. Rules on immigration status also apply: HealthCare.gov checks them when you apply.
