The Alberta Child and Family Benefit is paid in February, May, August and November. Canada Workers Benefit advance payments come in January, July and October. CPP and OAS dates for 2027 are published by Service Canada.

How each payment works

  • Canada Child Benefit: a tax-free monthly payment for each child under 18, worked out from your family net income for the year before. The amount is reset every July, when the new benefit year starts. Many provincial child benefits are paid with it, in the same deposit.
  • Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit: the GST/HST credit was renamed and made about 25% bigger from July 2026. It’s a tax-free payment every three months for people on low and modest incomes, also reset every July from your last tax return. Some provinces add their own credit to it.
  • Canada Workers Benefit: a refundable credit for low-income workers, claimed on your tax return. If you qualify, the CRA pays up to half of it in advance, in three payments, and the rest comes with your refund.
  • Ontario Trillium Benefit: combines Ontario’s energy and property tax credit, the Northern Ontario energy credit and the Ontario sales tax credit, usually paid monthly on the 10th.
  • CPP and OAS: paid by Service Canada, not the CRA, at the end of each month. Both are taxable, so you may owe tax at tax time unless you ask for some to be taken off each payment.

Get paid on time

  • Sign up for direct deposit through CRA My Account, your bank or by phone, so payments land on the payment date instead of arriving days later by mail.
  • File your tax return every year, by April 30, even with no income. The CRA uses it to work out your benefits from July, and payments stop if you or your spouse or partner haven’t filed.
  • Tell the CRA about changes straight away: a new address, a new baby, or a change in your marital status, which can change how much you get.

If a payment doesn’t arrive

Wait 10 working days before contacting the CRA, to allow for bank delays. Check CRA My Account for a message or a change in your amount. See what you could get with the Canada Child Benefit calculator.

Frequently asked questions

When is the Canada Child Benefit paid in December 2026?

On Friday, December 11, 2026. The CRA pays the December CCB early, before the holidays.

When is the next GST/HST credit payment?

The GST/HST credit is now the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit, and it’s still paid in January, April, July and October, usually on the 5th. The next payment after October 2026 is on Tuesday, January 5, 2027.

When are CPP and OAS paid?

Near the end of each month, usually on the third-last business day, and earlier in December. In the rest of 2026 that’s Thursday, November 26 and Tuesday, December 22.

Why didn’t my benefit payment arrive?

Allow 10 working days for bank delays before calling the CRA. The most common reason a payment stops is that you or your spouse or partner didn’t file a tax return, or your address, bank details or marital status are out of date.

Are these benefits taxable?

The Canada Child Benefit, the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit and the Ontario Trillium Benefit are tax-free. CPP and OAS are taxable income, and you can ask for tax to be taken off each payment.
