Assumptions in this estimate
  • Take-home pay assumes a single person with no pension, retirement or other pre-tax deductions.
  • PAYE is worked out for the full year and spread evenly across your pays; IRD’s PAYE tables round each pay, so single pays can differ by a few cents.
  • Assumes this is your main job (tax code M, or ME with the independent earner tax credit) and you have no other income.
  • PAYE includes the ACC earners’ levy of 1.75% on earnings up to $156,641.

How the calculator works

  1. Annual pay before tax: your hourly rate × hours a week × weeks a year, plus overtime hours at 1.5× your rate.
  2. Take-home pay: we run that annual pay through the same 2026–27 income tax and ACC earners’ levy rules as our PAYE calculator, on tax code M.

For KiwiSaver, a student loan or tax code ME, use the PAYE calculator, which also accepts hourly pay.
