Assumptions in this estimate
  • Take-home pay assumes a single person with no pension, retirement or other pre-tax deductions.
  • Tax is worked out for the full year and spread evenly across your pays; the ATO tax tables used for withholding can differ by a few dollars a pay.
  • The Medicare levy low-income threshold is the 2025–26 figure ($28,011), which the ATO also uses for 2026–27 withholding.
  • Assumes a single person with no dependants; family thresholds for the Medicare levy and surcharge are not included.

How the calculator works

  1. Annual pay before tax: your hourly rate × hours a week × weeks a year, plus overtime hours at 1.5× your rate.
  2. Take-home pay: we run that annual pay through the same 2026–27 income tax, low income tax offset and Medicare levy rules as our pay calculator, for an Australian resident.

For HELP repayments, salary sacrifice or a package that includes super, use the pay calculator, which also accepts hourly pay.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an hourly rate to an annual salary?

Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work each week, then by 52. A standard full-time week in Australia is 38 hours, or 1,976 hours a year, so $35 an hour is $35 × 1,976 = $69,160 a year before tax.

How is overtime paid in Australia?

Overtime rates are set by your award or agreement. Many awards pay 1.5 times the normal rate for the first few hours of overtime and double time after that. Enter your overtime hours and the calculator pays them at 1.5×; if yours are paid at double time, add a little extra to your hours.

Should I include super?

This calculator shows your pay before super. Your employer also pays 12% super on top of your ordinary hours. Casual rates already include a loading of about 25% instead of paid leave.

How much is $30 an hour a year?

At 38 hours a week, $30 an hour is $59,280 a year, $4,940 a month or $2,280 a fortnight before tax.
